Direct optical biosensor analysis of folate-binding protein in milk
H. E. Indyk and E. L. Filonzi
J Agric Food Chem 52: 3253-8 (2004)
Detailed information on methodologies and assay controls are provided. The authors do an excellent job of highlighting both the challenges involved in this type of application and the benefits of Biacore Q in this analytical role.

Determination of beta-Lactams in Milk Using a Surface Plasmon Resonance-Based Biosensor
E. Gustavsson, J. Degelaen, P. Bjurling and A. Sternesjo
J Agric Food Chem 52: 2791-6 (2004)
Concentration assays based on antibodies are often compromised by too much or too little cross reactivity. This Biacore Q-based assay offers an interesting way around. Briefly, carboxypeptidase is used to cleave certain peptides, a reaction that b-lactam antibiotics can inhibit. The concentration of non-hydrolyzed peptides can then be quantified using a competition assay. Limits of detection and accuracy of the assay seem to meet the expectations of potential users of the assay.
This paper is included among other’s in the first author’s  thesis, “SPR biosensor analysis of b-lactam antibiotics in milk”. The thesis expands on the subject matter of this paper and may be freely downloaded from http://diss-epsilon.slu.se/archive/00000240

Determination of vitamin B12 in milk products and selected foods by optical biosensor protein-binding assay: method comparison
H. E. Indyk, B. S. Persson, M. C. Caselunghe, A. Moberg, E. L. Filonzi and D. C. Woollard
J AOAC Int 85: 72-81 (2002)
A case study using Qflex Kit Vitamin B12 and Biacore Q. The results are examined in a manner that provides an objective account of use of Biacore Q for detection of vitamin B12 in milk products. The account is well written and educational.
